Frequently Asked Questions

What does the name “Balotilo” mean?

Balotilo is an Esperanto word formed from “balot-” (“to vote”) and “-ilo” (“tool”). It therefore means “voting tool.” We chose a name from a language designed to promote access to international communication and guarantee equality of expression, because that matches our ambition: to make the practice of democracy accessible to as many organizations as possible.

Security and compliance

Balotilo offers two levels of security regarding ballot secrecy and the reliability of voting operations.
The free version allows each voter to easily verify that their vote has indeed been taken into account.
The Pro version, with the “ultra-secure voting” option, includes measures aligned with the recommendations of recognized French authorities, the CNIL and ANSSI. These measures are designed to meet the requirements of security levels 1 and 2 defined by the CNIL in its recommendations. Balotilo undergoes regular audits conducted by independent organizations to assess the robustness of its security measures and their alignment with these recommendations.
